Hay
War Memorial HS HSC History Study Day Trip - June 2010
Hay
is 725 kilometres from Sydney and the time taken to travel
usually precludes us from accessing central study days
for our HSC students. It was really fantastic to travel
to Sydney for the 2010 HTA Study Days with a group of
our students as a result of one of the HTA Remote Subsidy
Grants and I’d like to thank the HTA very much,
on behalf of these students.
The
experience of two hectic days in Sydney on June 18 and
19th, attending the Ancient History lectures at Sydney
University, was very positive for them all and collectively
they listed the following for the school newsletter:
10
Things I love about Study Days in Sydney:
1.
Bringing together our history topics for us.
2.
Reinforcing the huge community of students we belong
to – there were 2,000 people at the lectures!
3. Feeling we were part of a really big university.
4. A taste of University life to inspire us –
the atmosphere, lecture theatres, food (best hot chocolates
in Sydney) visiting residential colleges and finding
out about scholarships.
5. Hearing hot tips from experienced examiners.
6.
Gaining our confidence in traveling by ‘planes,
trains, buses, monorail and in city traffic generally.
7.
Exposure to new experiences – how do you choose
from so many restaurants in King St and what will they
be like??
8.
The chance to see a world premiere performance at Belvoir
St on Friday night, tackling conflicting perspectives
of contemporary issues such as racism and terrorism.
9.
Discovering new lives, new thoughts and new career possibilities
all around us.
10.
Being awarded a subsidy by the History Teachers’
Association so we could do all this!!
I
feel that it is very important to allow our isolated remote
rural students these experiences to develop their confidence
in negotiating the very different opportunities available
in the cities and thus expanding their personal horizons
and it was a pleasure to travel with them and enjoy their
delight in all that was new. Thank you very much HTA!
With best wishes,
Mary Lou Gardam, Teacher, HWMHS.
Port
Macquarie High School HSC History Study Day Trip - June
2009
Port
Macquarie High School have been really privileged to receive
your 2009 subsidy to enable our school to visit the HTA
Study Skills Day at Sydney University on 13 June. We have
made this an option for our Year 12 students for the past
6 years and our great HSC results can be attributed to
this extra assistance.
This year is our largest ever cohort with 65 students
studying Ancient, 20 students studying Modern and 6 students
studying Extension. Your subsidy allowed 38 students to
visit the Study Skills Day (normally we have 6-12 attending).
The students found the day to be of enormous value - both
in expertise provided and re-assurance of what they are
currently doing. A tremendous experience for these students.

Coonabarabran
High School Remote Subsidy Winners 2009
On behalf of the students and staff of Coonabarabran High
School, we would like to express our grateful appreciation
for receiving a 2009 HTANSW Remote Subsidy Grant.
This grant enabled us to attend the HSC Study Days at
little cost to ourselves. We used our free pass to attend
Modern History Lectures over three days and the $1,000
greatly reduced the cost of our accommodation.
We found the lectures to be of a high standard, relevant
and useful. The presenters were experienced and knowledgeable
and we particularly appreciated the information on how
to approach the HSC examination.
Thank you once again for providing us with this opportunity.
Bega High School HSC History Study Day Trip - 16th
June 2007
One teacher driver and four students set out from Bega
at 11.30 on a cold, wet Friday for the big lights of Sydney.
The trip was interesting to say the least – six
and a half hours of torrential rain, McDonalds and non–stop
Triple J on the radio.
Our accommodation was good with the teacher scoring a
well deserved up grade. We ate out in Dixon Street, took
in a movie and got to bed suitably late.
Saturday was still wet but we rugged up and made our way
to Sydney Uni for the HTA Day. We split up and managed
to cover a range of lectures in all three areas –
Modern History, Ancient History and Extension History.
Every lecture was enjoyable / informative and we all found
the trip extremely worth while.
Many thanks to the HTA NSW for making the trip possible
(and economically painless for us.)
Regards
Bob, Naomi, Amber, Emily and Krishnamurti.
