REGIONAL HISTORY TEACHERS' NETWORKS

HOW TO START A NETWORK

The HTANSW is keen to support History teachers who wish to organise professional development activities in their region. The best way to do this is to form a 'History Teachers' Network'.

To form a Network:

1. As the local organisers, find other interested individuals who can be part of the management committee that runs the network. The network should include teachers from more than two schools.

2. Decide on a name for the network. eg. South Western History Teachers' Network.
NOTE: For legal reasons, networks CANNOT use "HTANSW" in their title. (Please consult with the HTANSW's Regional Support Officer to avoid naming conflicts).

3. Assign roles to the members of the management committee. You will need a President or Chairperson, a Secretary and a Treasurer.

4. Open a bank account in the name of the network.

5. Complete the ' Regional History Teacher Network' registration form download here
Return it to the HTANSW office, c/- Regional Support Officer.

Once HTANSW has received your form with the required network details, a seeding grant of $100 will be provided to the Network to help with basic expenses such as organising an initial meeting.

Develop an outline of planned professional development activities for the year, eg. program and resource sharing workshops, professional development sessions, HSC student days, publication of programs and teaching ideas. Send the outline to HTANSW and if approved, $500 will be provided to the network to defray costs.

NOTE:

• HTANSW can provide advice for planning and conducting conferences, HSC student days etc. and, if requested, will arrange some Sydney-sider speakers.

• HTANSW expects that commonsense user-pay registration fees will cover most costs of network activities.

• Networks can advertise their events on the HTANSW website.

• HTANSW logo, our registered trademark, cannot be used by Regional Networks in any form unless HTANSW has had some direct involvement in the planning and/or delivery of the activity. This is to safeguard our registration as an accredited provider with the NSW Institute of Teachers.

To maintain registration as an HTANSW Regional History Teacher Network, you need to complete and return your registration form to the HTANSW office EACH YEAR.
